When Boone was little (and still today) be could recognize a Jack Johnson song within the first few notes.  If you asked what he wanted to listen to, he always said "Jack Johnson" (you have to pretend he squished the name all together in an 18 month old kind of voice).  

So, the music of choice for our current almost two year old is "Beety Boys".  What, didn't quite catch that?  Yes, you were correct, that would be "The Beastie Boys".  "Kick It!"  is his favorite new phrase.  

That pretty much just sums up what our life is going to be like with these two!

Since I've Been Such a Bad Blogger...

I have a meme for you just so I have something to post about.  It will be much shorter than the get to know you email lists.  Here it is:

• Look up page 123 in the nearest book
• Look for the fifth sentence
• Then post the three sentences that follow that fifth sentence on page 123

This is an extract from it, remembering those who gave their lives for their country.  The second verse is particularly poignant.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.

This one takes a bit of explanation.  I am sitting in the living room and the nearest book is The Iggulden brothers' "The Dangerous Book for Boys".

 

That excerpt is from a chapter on Famous Battles and it is describing a poem called "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon that was written about the WWI battle at The Somme. 

Wow,  I couldn't have just been sitting next to a Nora Roberts novel and quoted a passionate love scene that needed no explanation?  To be fair, the closest book to me was actually  "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight"? but it doesn't have a page 123.

Mama's Little Helpers

Just found this cool new website, www.jott.com, that allows you to call yourself (its toll free number) from your cell phone and leave a message.  It will transcribe this message and email it to you or put an appt on your google calendar or even a blogger or typepad post.  I'll have to try out the blogger widget in a bit but I have to laugh at the voicemail I tested out today.  

It does admit to only being fairly confident in the transcription but it should actually say "suckers". The "sacks" part is correct though. It was accurate enough for me to recall what I meant though. The calendar function worked great for those of you that use Google Calendar. I use it because I can access it at home and work which is helpful since I don't carry a palm pilot anymore. I can also use separate labels for Josh and the boys and then share them with Josh so we all know what is going on. Then I use Spanning Sync to sync my google calendar to iCal because I like using it a little better on my mac. Spanning sync works really well also.

The Best Ever...

We love Jack Johnson at our house and as soon as we started the first song, Boone said "Is that Jack Johnson?"

I love this album!  There are so many great songs and I've already picked at least four new favorites.  I told Josh that I am dancing with Boone to "Go On" at his wedding.  Go on... if you are a parent, I dare you to read the lyrics to that song without crying.  The title song "Sleep Through the Static" is not just fantastic musically but lyrically was well. So perfect for this time and this nightmare of a war.  Anyway, the whole album is amazing and may quite possibly be his best album to date.  Do yourself a favor, download it now (or you could just go buy the CD:)!
