I am Thinking - That it really is time to say goodbye to old Tug. Watching him in this cold is so sad.

I am Thankful - That I have a garage to park in this winter.

From the Kitchen - Not much of anything lately, its no fun to cook when Josh isn't around to enjoy it (or to help me make the boys eat it).

I am Wearing - Snow boots with wool socks and some CAbi clothes.

I am Creating - Space and order after Christmas. No new crafty projects at this time but I'm trying to take more photos again.

I am Going - No where in this weather if I can help it.

I am Reading - Finally started Harry Potter with the boys and I'm reading Sister: A Novel which is riveting.

I am Hoping - That Josh makes it home for his birthday on Thursday and that he doesn't try to come if it stays yucky.

I am Hearing - Grunts and groans from kids playing too many video games.

Around the House -I still need a dining table but it really looks like a home after being here a year.

Josh's Mt. Adams Climb

Yes - it really is a post from Josh...

About two months ago, while having a few beers my buddy Tim, he told me he was planning a trip to climb Mt. Adams, and asked if I was interested. With my courage shored with by a few cold Dos Equis I said I'd love to join the group. The plan was to drive to Trout Lake on the first day and hike from the parking area to "base camp" around 9000ft. There we would set up a camp eat sleep and prep for day two. The second day would include a pre daylight excursion and climb for a mid morning summit then head back to base camp pack up and head to the truck for a night of camping BBQ'ing and drinking.i

We met Saturday morning to lay out all our gear and determine what was needed and try and eliminate duplicate stuff. We had done a pretty good job of getting our stuff lined up but we still needed a last minute trip to REI and the grocery store. We met at my place Sunday morning at 6am and headed to Trout Lake Ranger station to register for the trip. It cost $15 for a weekend pass. We were told the snow level was very low and we would have to park 2.5 miles below the trail head at 4400 ft, which was great because 15 miles didn't seem like quite far enough to walk! Since it was Sunday morning there were quite a few cars parked on the road to the trailhead but we found a spot and headed up the mountain. Thanks to the low snow level the hike had a nice little warm up of 2.3 miles to the trailhead. The snow was pretty consistent at the trail head and made the walk much more difficult.

Setting up camp for the night was super cool. We were at about 8900 feet, well above the tree line and the place looked like the moon. No life anywhere just big volcanic boulders snow and a few small sheltered areas that had been dug in by previous hikers. The common place to stay is called Lunch Counter by the professionals we were about 600-700 feet below that but as I said before, we were gassed, and seeing 2 small nooks for the tents among the rocks was a life saver! We pitched our tents and set about unpacking and cooking dinner... That is melting to snow to make enough warm water to cook our MRE’s. The selection of MRE’s is pretty good and you can have just about anything, some good some bad. In my limited experience, keep it simple. If it is normally dehydrated it’ll taste better ie. dehydrated noodles and rice - good... dehydrated Chicken breast with Mashed potatoes - bad.

We were settled in about 9pm and pretty much ready for bed. I put on a fresh pair of socks which was better than ___ (I’ll let you fill in the blank), then threw in a packet of Via coffee kicked my feet up and watched the sun set over Hood, St Helens, and the entire lower Columbia Basin. Very Cool! About 10:30 I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore (even though it was still daylight) so we turned in for the night. We were a little worried because it was about 28 degrees with a 20mph wind, but in the small tent and our bags we slept like babies and there were no reports of anyone getting cold.

We set the alarm for 5:00am, a Little later than we originally thought, but after talking with several people on the way way up it was determined we didn’t need to start so early.We were all up before 5 and never heard the alarm go off.

Hot breakfast (dehydrated granola in milk for me) another cup of coffee and we were off! We started walking about 6am. The Summit is 12,300 ft so we had approx 3400 vertical to climb today. The ascent to the false summit is massive and intimidating, but I found it to be easier if you just don’t look up... Everyone I had talked with warned me to be ready for the surprise of how much farther we had after reaching the false summit, and they weren’t kidding! I was the first of our group to reach the false summit so i had time to watch a ventricular cloud formation blow over the summit and completely white out the view. By the time the rest of the guys got there it was pretty menacing looking. We decided to trudge on and see what the mountain would bring!

The hike after the false summit went surprisingly quick. Before we knew it we were standing on the top of the world... well higher than any of us had been except for in a plane. It was about quarter to ten and we had made it! I remember trying to determine if the altitude was affecting me, I didn’t feel like i was starving for oxygen but in retrospect i do recall feeling a little “drunk” for lack of a better term. i remember fine motor skills like zipping up a jacket or putting on gloves seemed to take more concentration than normal. Other than that the 45 minutes we spent on the summit was incredible! The view is un-describable, Mt St Helens, Rainier, Hood, Sisters, the ridge to the east of Rainier which I think is called the Razorback all surround you and all above the clouds.

The biggest bummer of the trip was that the clouds that were covering the summit that day prevented the snow from getting slushy, this made Glissading suicide... If you aren’t familiar, Glissading is sitting on your butt and sliding blissfully at the speed of your choice to the bottom of the mountain. We were forced to walk down a couple thousand feet before we could start Glissading.

The walk back to the truck was so much easier! Slipping sliding and glissading downhill is so much better than 8” steps uphill! All in all The trip was so cool... I’d say if you don’t want to start climbing don’t do it once! I will be doing it again. I would like to climb Adams a few more times then maybe move on to anther mountain.

This was waiting for me when I arrived home, nice to be missed!

Finally - A Weekend at Home!

It sounds so boring but it is exactly what I needed! Summers are so busy and we love seeing all of our friends but there is still so much to do at the house. Saturday after my regular breakfast of champions (a vanilla latte and Luna bar) I mowed the lawn and tried to pull up crab grass. I got a sunburn and very sore leg and back muscles for those efforts. Josh entrusted me to do some experiments with lawn chemicals (not something I am usually a proponent of but we really need some assistance to get this yard up to our standards). He spent the day getting sheetrock up in the shop and moving things all around. We also got 8-10 loads of laundry done too.
This morning we enjoyed yummy blueberry bagels from Thursday's trip to the farmer's market and introduced the boys to Styx! They are playing the "trust game" in the photo but I'm not sure they know that. Next up is local raised and butchered ribs smoked on Josh's Green Mountain Grill, if I can figure out how to use it!

Memorial Cruise

Friday night was the first time the bugs have been out since Dave Sr. passed away last September. Josh and Don got them all washed up and shiny and we had a little family cruise over to Richland for Cool Desert Nights. This isn't the best photo (iPhone); we stopped for dinner at Azteca first. Nana and Grampa took the black bug with one kid; Josh and I took the Red Rag Top with the other kid. Brody was so excited to wear the black beetle button. Spending some time in the cars was a great reminder of Grandpa Dave and how much of himself went into his cars - we even found an unopened pack of Marlboros and some Binaca!

33 for 33 - Final Results

This is WAY late but I really wanted to recap my to do list that I made on my 33rd Birthday! So 17 out of 33 isn't terrible but not really a big success. I suppose building the house had something to do with it, not a lot of free time to be had (especially free time with Josh).

Run a 5K (Did a 2 mile race in July) (Finished a 5K in March 2011)
Achieve a "normal" BMI (so very close, 2# away) (No more movement in this area, I'm happy with maintenance at this point)
Wear a bikini - even if just in private (Do Tankinis count? Didn't think so) (Again, not so much!)
~~Take a photography class~~ (Took one online - but haven't practiced much)
Get a new tattoo (no new ink, I'd forgotten about this one)
Hike Badger 5 times (2 times so far) (Done)
Eat more veggies daily (Done intermittently, didn't hurt that we lived with a veggie Nana for 6 months)

I really want to make a new list - maybe not so grandiose as 34 items this year! I suppose I'd better get on it - a lot of the things on my list are things I want to do with Josh and some just for myself. Maybe two lists are in order. I also think posting them where I see them regularly would have made a big difference - let the planning and list making begin!!!

Looking Out for Mama

Yesterday we were getting in the car and Boone says "Dad, you need to change Mom's oil. Oh wait, never mind, you just hadn't started the car all the way yet!". I love that my little man is checking out my engine gauges and lights and looking out for me! What a great kid!

Ten for (almost) Tuesday

1. Brody had his 5 year well child exam yesterday. It was not a fun time when he needed his two shots, that kids is strong and loud. Funny how much less embarrassed I am with him than I would have been with Boone. A second child makes you humbler for sure.

2. My race results were better than I thought but I am only on one of the finishers lists on 3rrr.org. Somehow I got missed on the main spreadsheet. Good Thing I found this though:

3. We are finally getting the stamped concrete sealed today and the exterior paint prep will start too!

4. Boone is on his second round of antibiotics for an elusive sinus infection - seems to take after his Gram. Josh went to bed early tonight fighting early cold-like symptoms.

5. The boys are both waking up to alarm clocks and getting themselves dressed. This has been a wonderful month of mornings!

6. The age of my poor Tahoe is finally starting to show. It was a rough winter outdoors but it will be paid off at the end of the month. This will be the first time I've kept a car (payment free) and not run out to replace it. I don't think we have ever even paid off one of my cars before. We did keep the Bronco payment free for quite a while but added a second child in childcare to offset that savings.

7. My parents are in Kauai right now with my Aunt and Uncle. They ate rice and Portuguese sausage and eggs for breakfast and I was very jealous.

8. I am taking two trips within two months coming up really soon - Minnesota in early April and Las Vegas in early June. Two very different packing efforts.

9. I am listening to my old Tug Dog snore next to me and wondering how much longer I'll get to hear those noises.

10. We get our couch delivered Tuesday afternoon between 1 and 3pm-Oh Happy Day!!!

Real Life - You Asked for It!

So many of our friends and family have asked for updated pictures of the house. I keep putting it off because we are far from done and completely settled. Things are a mess, furniture is absent, we just aren't done yet. But today I read this post and the follow up comments and realized - its okay! It is what it is as my sweet husband always says. This is us ~ this is now!
I'll do a room at a time when they are more finished but for now, here is a mini tour...

This is the view from the breakfast bar in the kitchen - yes there is supposed to be glass in the cabinet door, but its not there yet!

This is the view from next to the fridge - the blue/green room in the distance is the master bedroom.

Here is our living room sans couch and rug. The couch was supposed to be here on Valentine's Day but looks like at least another two weeks. Such is our luck when ordering new furniture. Eventually there will be rock on the fireplace and a mantle too, in white. We love the built-ins. I just need some time to figure out the layout.

This is the view from the living area to the front of the house. Eventually we will have stuff on the walls, possibly a bar instead of the piano...priorities!

The is the guest bath downstairs off the entry way. Planned to be quite neutral so I can add stuff seasonally.

No great pictures of the master bedroom as this little guy is sleeping off his fever (hopefully). Not quite sure what is wrong with him yet, maybe a sinus infection? You can also see one very messy nightstand. Lots of things still waiting for a home.

No tour of the master bath today either (one of my favorite rooms) because as you can see by that big box there along the wall, there are two guys in there putting up my shower door...finally! There are two open doors on either side of this little hall leading to the bathroom. Each side goes into a closet - so far I've even let Josh keep his all to himself. I'm a nice wife like that!

This is the view from the living room looking at the dining/reading room and further in to the laundry/mud room. Lots of hyphenated multi-use rooms in this house, no? Very unfinished at this point. I didn't want to bring the old table in when I want something different for this space. We also need a hutch and two comfy little chairs for the reading nook, as well as a rug for under the table. All these solid surface floors have me begging Josh for a Roomba. Now he knows why I wanted central vacuum put in - but alas, it was vetoed.

Here is the laundry area - I have big plans for this mudroom but my hubby needs a bit of a break from 18 hours days and has some other big projects still. This is currently functional and just needs a little organization for now.

This is the office/craft room - more slashes in the room titles. It still needs a desk and work table. I have another trip to Portland Ikea in me before this room will be done.

This room had me the most scared for awhile after the boys picked the paint color, but then I found this bedding and it has become one of my favorite spots. This is the guest bedroom and it is actually ready for visitors (hint, hint).

The boys bathroom - its pretty galley shaped so getting photos in here is pretty difficult. These mirrors are so great for a bathroom with growing boys. They tilt down while they are shorties but can tilt up as they grow. They were a major splurge even on sale (Josh - don't click on the link :))

Everyone's favorite part - ya gotta have a urinal in a house full of boys, right?

We have a loose Seahawks theme upstairs - this is a view into the shower and toilet room that is separated from the rest of the bathroom by a pocket door should my boys ever decide privacy is a necessity. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Boone's room! Sick little guy = unmade bed. Overwhelmed mom = undecorated room (so far).

Brody's room and his version of a made bed. He's having a tough time getting used to sleeping in here by himself.

This is the bonus room. Right now, it is very much a playroom - they've been cooped up for so long they don't know what to do with this much space except make a huge mess. Eventually, as they get older and we restock a savings of some sort, it will turn into a media room. We have it wired for a projector and ceiling speakers when the time comes.

This is how I would prefer the room look. It is the view back into the hall from the bonus room. A little more organized...

This is a storage area off of the upstairs hall. Behind me is our furnace and in front is an explosion of holiday stuff, luggage, and kids clothing of various sizes that doesn't currently fit either kid. This area is in need of a few shelves but that is pretty much all that will happen here.

This is that same space from the side, sitting on Boone's bed. The area joins the boys' bedrooms and has a desk in the little nook. Eventually it will be their shared computer area, but for now the pocket doors stay open so Brody can see Boone lying in bed.

The view out the back door - the covered porch isn't quite finished. Hopefully, next week the concrete (stamped/stained) will be done out here and cut down on some of the insane amounts of sand tracked in on my floors! The wind is intense up here too so with no ground cover at this time, the sand is everywhere. Better than dust I suppose...

The exterior will be painted as soon as the weather warms up a bit. The driveway should be graveled this weekend and hopefully, Charter can get the cable installed so we have internet speeds faster than my iPhone currently gets. Clearwire is sooooo slow! The lawn will be hydro-seeded when the irrigation is turned back on this spring. It will not be soon enough but there is a ton of lawn to do! I hope to get trees planted along the back to block some of riding arena that you see there and landscaping will be a bit farther down the road yet.

We are so happy to be HOME and I am so amazed at what Josh has accomplished here. We've all worked hard and sacrificed a bit but it is no comparison to what he has endured to get us this far. He is so talented and has put so much effort in to our home and I am so grateful!

One Little Word - 2011

I've been thinking a bit about my word for this year - wanting to make it count.
Two years ago when I first started this project, I chose the word focus and that was year I made a big dent in what has become a sixty pound weight loss.
Last year's word was adventure and goodness knows its been that with our living situation, building the house, and trying my hand at enjoying physical activity...my adventure into running.
This year I really wanted my word to reflect my desire to keep on with the newer, healthier lifestyle as well as the peace I hope we all find as we settle into our new home in a few weeks (fingers crossed), organize our space, and spend some down time just being together as a family. My "one little word" for 2011 is~

Was a day that our fish bowl was a little too small
My cautious oldest told me as I was leaving the 5th wheel with two baskets of laundry - "Mama be so careful, remember Daddy said the steps were soooo icy!"
I am doing ALL the laundry in the world
Both my boys are really enjoying an episode of Sesame Street - even without baby Michael around
I am going to pick out white paint for our cabinets and finally find the perfect blue for a few other spaces (I am stuck between Wythe and Thunderbird both of which are Benjamin Moore - which is further complicated by the fact that our painter is using Parker Paints).
I have officially decided 4 days (and no photos) into December that there will be no Daily December photo series this year!
I really want to run but am still scared of the ice. Its been three weeks and I am cranky! I am going to have to dig out the treadmill at the shop and find an outlet.

Home Sweet Home

Its official! Home sweet home is now our 5th Wheel! No good blogging photos for awhile-this one is from my iPhone/stolen from Facebook. My iMac (4th love of my life) is now packed away since it doesn't fit so well in here, so I am using our dinosaur iBook that is as old as Boone. I am VERY hopeful that I'll be the owner of a Mac Book Pro sometime in October.

We are all settling in fairly well and very happy we upgraded our living quarters earlier this year. This 5th Wheel is much easier for all 4 of us to live in than our old one would have been. Of course, we are also very grateful to my inlaws for letting us take up their driveway and take over their kitchen every night. It is really good to be able to cook for us inside. Of course with football practice (Josh), soccer practice (boys), and me being sicky, there hasn't been a whole lot of cooking so far.

The boys are a bit emotional but they are also feeling under the weather so it is hard to tell exactly why. Boone isn't nearly as enamored with school this year, we are still trying to problem solve that one. Poor kid - not only did we have the move but he started full day school this year in a temporary location since his school is being remodeled. He doesn't have any of his closest buddies in his class (which has positive and negative consequences) and his teacher is new to Southgate too (I do think she is great so far though). The night before school started, his 2nd front tooth came out. My kid is SO self conscious about his appearance (thank goodness he isn't a girl or we'd be dealing with eating disorders etc. for sure) so he is definitely smiling less.

My little Brody is also pretty emotional lately. The other day, when I explained that there were new people living in our house he started wailing "I miss my HOOOOME!" So sad! I am trying to be understanding and patient and reflect on how this must feel in the world of a 4/6 year old, but sometimes I get frustrated. The benefit in the long run is going to be so worth it and they will have so much! But 8 months away is a lifetime for little folks.

So on we go into our year of adventure! I'll start to post some photos and ideas that I have for the house so you all can help me finalize decisions as we go!

Moving Right Along

The Shop floor was poured today with lots of late night work this week from Josh and lots of great help today!

I HATE slippery shiny concrete surfaces! I can barely walk in my in-laws garage with bare feet without gritting my teeth. I think I am going to be very happy with with this power trowel finish on my feet!

Uncle T & Brody on a break! Love how he's drinking and driving my 4 year old in the lift!

We had a surprise visit from Mr. Hamby this morning and I'm glad he showed up to help! I am sure the guys were too.

The metal is being delivered at 3pm today so Josh is going to have a very busy weekend in front of him. I'm thinking we should be having some margaritas by a pool tonight to prepare for another long day.

Late T-Ball Layout

Though it was ~~a little~~ a lot crazy to have both boys in sports this spring, it was great in a lot of ways! We were fortunate enough to have practice on the same night at the same location with enough space in between that we could handle it even on single parent nights.
It was great for Brody to get to be the center of our attention for an activity and we met some wonderful new friends thanks to T-Ball! (But I am really glad its over!)

Ten on Tuesday

Hanging at home with the boys today after Boone spent Monday afternoon throwing up!
My scale is slowly recovering from the shock I gave it after a fun cabin weekend with Josh and the Roberts'.
The boys are a week into their short summer hair cuts with no sun to keep their poor heads warm.
The shop is more than half way done and is going to stay that way for three weeks (Cabin Weekend, Hoopfest, and Mottet).
Interviewing a new realtor tomorrow.
Loving all of my new CAbi clothes, can't wait to see the fall line.
Wishing we were planning a vacation this summer!
Wanting to go run today but think that Josh's 5:30 tee time will probably keep that from happening.
Crossed one of the five Badger Mountain hikes off of my list for the year.

I want to know what music you run to. Just your favorite upbeat music or is there a method to your selection process. Below is a pic of my current playlist for running - and because most of you know me, you won't be surprised to learn that these songs were methodically selected because they are all very close to 140 beats per minute. Luckily, the list is long enough that, set to shuffle, I haven't gotten bored with it yet since I obviously can't run the full length of this playlist.

So, what do you like? What motivates you?

These Two

There are days when things get crazy and I forget to count my blessings. Days when this mom job is so hard that I don't take the opportunity to be grateful for these two little beings that I've been blessed with the job of raising. And it leaves me wondering am I everything that they need? Do I wish time away?

I do know that I am blessed that they are forgiving and easily forget what I may have done wrong yesterday, or even a moment ago, that their arms are ever ready to hug their mama. I know it won't be like this for long...

Brody, I know that I am so lucky to look into these beautiful eyes every day and to get to listen to the most infectious laugh on the planet

I am so grateful that my Boone is has the kindest heart and the gentlest touch which can make all the bad things disappear, if only for a moment.

Thank you My Boys, for allowing me to be a better person and for enriching my life in a way I didn't know was possible. Thank you for loving me unconditionally despite my shortcomings. Thank you for being you... just you two...

What a fantastic Sunday!

Love starting a Sunday with coffee made by my husband! I used a new iPhone app called C25K (Couch to 5K) to help with my run today. That and a playlist full of songs at 140 beats per minute made it a much more successful run day! It was pretty nice that the timing/distance to Katie and Don's fit just perfectly.

I ran over an Josh drove over with the boys for Baby Michael's First Birthday! What a fun thing to celebrate outside in the beautiful sunshine. I think that I am a pretty good cook but Heidi definitely has the baking strength in our generation of family members. It must be genetic! We had yummy cupcakes and Mike had the cutest ducky cake.

After we got home, I played ball in the back yard for awhile with my boys. Josh claims that I hold my mitt wrong but I'd like to claim some spousal abuse for the amount of times I got hit today. Of course, that means I'd need to call CPS on myself since I managed to hit Brody 3 times this afternoon, once in the forehead, once on the chest, and once in the mouth. Poor buddy - I only brought on the tears once though!

Now I am so ready for bed! Working on my 33 for 33 list - I am a little behind as I probably should have had it finished before my birthday. We'll see if all 33 items get done by next April!

Just finished watching Fantastic Mr. Fox on DVD. The Easter Bunny left it it Boone's basket.

How did I not know the movie was by Wes Anderson?

I knew that I would love the story since I love Roald Dahl but during the movie I just kept saying "I love this dialog!" Josh made the comment that it was just like The Royal Tenenbaums or The Life Aquatic (like that should make complete sense to me). I completely agreed, yet couldn't figure out how this "kids movie" was able to do that. Duh! I am not sure what it is about Wes Anderson movies, but I love them. And Fantastic Mr. Fox was...well, Fantastic!

Making Dough

Thanks to the Pioneer Woman, I am going to attempt a few recipes tomorrow! Can you believe I've only make real bread once before? And that was before we were married (but right after I got my Kitchen Aid Mixer). Pioneer Woman's famous cinnamon roll dough recipe is the same dough base for Hot Cross Buns and her Rosemary Dinner Rolls too!

So I'm making dough today and two different bread recipes tomorrow! Wish me luck!

ETA: I decided against Hot Cross Buns because I just couldn't get excited about raisins in my breakfast rolls, so Cinnamon Rolls it was! And they were fantastic - hopefully the dinner rolls turn out as well! Have a Wonderful, Blessed Easter!

A Guest Post from Josh - Just to Vent

So we decided to break down and buy new shoes for one of the rigs. Procrastination made it so we need both rigs at about the same time. By the way have you priced tires in the last year? You won't like what you find.

We decided family rig first-since it carries the family more, that one has priority.

Of course we have been talking about rims for 5 years so why not. Shop around; find some good deals and finally decide on some new American Eagle rims and Toyo tires from Schwabbies.

Sooo last Friday we drop the big Tahoe off. Once there I am reminded about: mount, balance, lug nuts, valve stems, tax, "Do you want those siped sir, for only $50 it makes the tire....blah blah". $1700 out the door. Ugh.

After the initial buyers remorse, and a detailed polishing on Saturday, I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase. Definitely sharp looking, and the truck can wait until later in the summer for some new pavement creepers... right? Wrong.

About 18 hours later I'm driving down 240 nursing a slight hangover (from a poker game the night before (a winning effort by the way)) when I notice a funny sound emanating from the passenger side rear, oh yeah its a blow out!

SOB.

Okay. Regroup. Think about it for a couple days. Now it official, it's not going to fix itself, I need to do something so off to Schwabs again. Of course I have to have the Toyo MT's and they have to be big so for about $1300 they can be mine; sick to stomach must go home and cry, one more day to think about it.

Then a ray of hope, good old Apollo comes through. Wednesday I have my annual review and it turns out okay, I get a little ching to help out with the cash hemorrhage I seem to be ailing from. Back down to Schwabs I go (where I am somewhat of a rock star by now) "Go ahead boys make em shine!" I say with gusto "Call me when you're done."

Off I go... 15 minutes later ring ring, thats odd what could they want so quickly? "Mr Prock did you know two of your rims are cracked? We can't mount tires on these death traps... Have you perused our fine selection of custom rims?"

Yes, yes I have.

Thats my week, hope yours has been better.

This Old Dog

Tug has managed to make it through this winter which I am so grateful for! He looks and acts a heck of a lot older than 10.5 years old. He always has...but it is hard to be as spry as his older sister. His arthritis has gotten so bad that he is getting to be a pretty spendy dog to keep around too. Poor guy can barely lift his legs to step up onto his bed if he doesn't have his medicine.

He has trimmed down a bit which is a never ending battle for the old blondes in this family! But that does seem to help him out a bit. He loves his food as much as ever, and continues to do his hippity hop off of his front legs when it might possibly be time to eat! Every once in awhile, he gets a little rowdy with Elly, though she always manages to remind him who really is the alpha in our house (or beta I guess, as Josh truly is their alpha)!

He is still the best snuggler and could care less who lays across him. Most nights you'll find the cat snuggled between his legs on his bed. He feigns disdain, but I can tell he really does enjoy it. I will really miss the guy when its time to let him go, though I am sure we will find reminders of his yellow hair until I am an old woman!

Guess Who Lost a Tooth?

I guess it probably isn't that hard to figure out. I can't believe Boone's first tooth waited to come out until he was 6 1/2 years old to come out, especially since he was barely three months old when it came in! It was unbelievably wobbly and loose but he refused to work it out. Josh tried again and again and finally talked him into letting him wrap it in dental floss to pop it out. He already has his permanent tooth half way grown in.

Went to a PTG meeting at school tonight - those ladies are working so hard this year. Not sure I am ready to jump in while working and building a house next year. Maybe when both boys are in school...
Trying to figure out my personality type, have no idea what I'll do with it after I know.
Love the 39 Clues Series. Well, we are still on the first book but I really like it so I think I will love the series. I am secretly happy when Josh choses not to read it on his reading nights so I don't miss any of the story.
Finished The Adventures of Frog and Toad this week. How did I miss this growing up? It was hilarious and both boys loved it.
I'm not particularly into new music right now, I guess too busy with everything else.
I'm getting really excited about the house building process finally. That is probably because we are still living in a house. We'll see if that changes - but for now I love picking out all the things that I want. Designing the shop, making changes to the layout, tile ideas, molding, appliances. And I really love the Josh is agreeing with EVERYTHING so far!
So glad my family is on the mend. Boone got the sickest and I am the hold out, never officially sick.
Except for the sick crankies, I can't believe how big/old Brody is right now. He is finally leaving the tantrums behind and remembering to use words and manners. I guess he really is going to turn FOUR this month!
Sad that my old Tug is so stiff and sore. I happy that he made it through this winter but I am not sure how he is going to handle the tumultuous year ahead of us.
Really want to find some time to walk/run this week, but I want the sun to come back first.

Snow Buddies

On the Saturday of President's Day Weekend, the boys and I took a little adventure trip! One of my co-workers invited us up to her her cabin to enjoy the last of the snow before it was gone. Josh had chores to do, so the boys and I took off to the Blues.

The weather was fantastic - the snow was starting to melt so everything compacted wonderfully. It did make for some wet kids so it was a good thing we brought lots of snow gear to trade off.

Other than a few frustrations, they did great going down the hills and bringing their own sleds back up.

Boone learned how to use tools to make perfect snowballs!

And Brody learned to throw them with vengeance!

I even took a few trips down the hill with them too!

When the boys learned how to ride the Flexible Flyers, they were hooked! I've gotta do some shopping for these things, they are awesome!

New Post

Because my family is harassing me that there is nothing new on my blog! I suppose that could be because there is so much new going on around here. We decided to put the house up for sale in February which required a lot of time and effort to clean it up and out! It is so spacious and uncluttered in here, it almost makes me think we might be able to stay (just kidding)!

We are also trying to sell our older 5th Wheel and bought a newer (used) 5th Wheel toy hauler. This has meant lots of phone calls and moving things around. The larger 5th Wheel will be a better situation for us since it is likely that we'll be technically homeless for awhile after we sell this house.

In the process of planning to build - this week alone we met with a lender, a pole building designer, and an architect. All this and we've had sick a childcare provider (so glad our Angie is feeling better, she had it pretty bad) sick husband, sick daycare kiddos, sick grandparents and currently sick my kiddos which of course means I am fighting a bit of a bug as well.

We managed a quick trip to Portland for a bit of fun and wonderful and much overdue visit with the Watsons. The kids and Josh enjoyed their night out at "Walking with Dinosaurs" too. All in all, life is great but very busy. Hope we are all feeling better soon!

We were coming out of Barnes and Noble through a parking garage filled with cars at Lloyd Center in Portland. As we cross the traffic lane to the parked cars, we step up on a curb and Boone freezes. "Oh my gosh, that is so cool!" "Wow Mom, look at it!"

Of all the cars in the whole garage, this is what makes him take notice.

Martha's Muffins

This recipe is almost the same as in the cookbook. My recipe has only 1 cup of sugar and no nutmeg although I might have to keep that in mind. I bake it in my Pampered Chef Stoneware muffin pan and they are perfect! A little crispy on the outside and fluffy inside.

Seem to be blogging much less but I like that I am making actual layouts and still capturing memories. This digital stuff is so much quicker! Not quite as satisfying as crafting with your hands though. The ten things template was a quick way to get down everything I am thinking about our current crazy project.

I did finish something with my hands and my sewing machine without help! Well, my mom tried to email me directions but I didn't follow them very well. I am still really happy with the way it turned out. Hope I can find more of this fabric since I'll have more windows in our next house.

The Reason for the Season

Those of you who know me well know that I cannot stand preaching or condescension especially when it comes to religion. Often, because the people trying to spread a message are so narrow minded, the message itself is rejected and lost. I got this reminder from my "sister" Michelle after Thanksgiving and kept it for the past month to remind myself about the wisdom of this message and try to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Letter from Jesus about Christmas --

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season.

How I personally feel about this celebration can probably be most easily understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don't care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate My birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

Now, having said that let Me go on. If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn't allow a scene depicting My birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn If all My followers did that there wouldn't be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made all trees. You can remember Me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a teaching, explaining who I am in relation to you and what each of our tasks were. If you have forgotten that one, look up John 15: 1 - 8.

If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of My birth here is my wish list. Choose something from it:

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way My birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love, and hope to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

2. Visit someone in a nursing home. You don't have to know them personally. They just need to know that someone cares about them.

3. Instead of writing the President complaining about the wording on the cards his staff sent out this year, why don't you write and tell him that you'll be praying for him and his family this year. Then follow up... It will be nice hearing from you again.

4. Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts you can't afford and they don't need, spend time with them. Tell them the story of My birth, and why I came to live with you down here. Hold them in your arms and remind them that I love them.

5 Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and forgive him or her.

6. Did you know that someone in your town will attempt to take their own life this season because they feel so alone and hopeless? Since you don't know who that person is, try giving everyone you meet a warm smile; it could make the difference.

7. Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in your town calls the holiday, be patient with the people who work there. Give them a warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren't allowed to wish you a "Merry Christmas" that doesn't keep you from wishing them one.

8. If you really want to make a difference, support a missionary-- especially one who takes My love and Good News to those who have never heard My name.

9. Here's a good one. There are individuals and whole families in your town who not only will have no "Christmas" tree, but neither will they have any presents to give or receive. If you don't know them, buy some food and a few gifts and give them to the Salvation Army or some other charity which believes in Me and they will make the delivery for you.

10. Finally, if you want to make a statement about your belief in and loyalty to Me, then behave like a Christian. Don't do things in secret that you wouldn't do in My presence. Let people know by your actions that you are one of mine.

Don't forget; I am God and can take care of Myself. Just love Me and do what I have told you to do. I'll take care of all the rest. Check out the list above and get to work; time is short. I'll help you, but the ball is now in your court. And do have a most blessed Christmas with all those whom you love and remember:

I didn't adopt a cute bunch of girls! Boone and I had a date tonight. We went to the Mall to watch the winter music concert for his school. He absolutely loves the "Dragon Jam" marimba band and can't wait to be in 4th grade so he can join. It was pretty fun and these kids are fantastic. We also watched the orchestra and chorus but...that wasn't the highlight for us!

We went to "Family Night" at Boone's school tonight and listed to Christmas Stories and had cookies and cocoa. The stories were read by the fantastic librarian, Miss Tri-Cities, and the wonderful retired Principal Sauer. Mr. Sauer read "The Polar Express" complete with sound effects and a jingle bell for everyone in the audience. It was great!

No need to do a "What do I do with all of this candy?" post at our house. Elly Mae took care of that for us last night. Two gallon size ziploc bags full of candy were narrowed down to 4 pixie sticks, one box of Mike & Ikes, and a small pack of Sweet Tarts. My poor kids!

I told Josh, leave her out back and if she has a heart attack, Oh Well! I am a bit exasperated with our black canine housemate lately. Good news for you all who think I am evil, she's still here and kicking at least 12 hours later!

Angie and I went to see the BEST musical ever in Seattle this weekend! I can say that since I've seen relatively few Broadway shows in my lifetime, less than 15. Just like with Phantom, I would pay to see Wicked many more times. It was fantastic and sounded just like the soundtrack even though the principals were different.

A fun girls weekend and I forgot my camera! Hard to believe, I know. These are a few of my salvageable iPhone pictures. No matter how much they say they've improved its camera, it is no substitute for my Nikon. We had to rush through dinner but it was a fantastic one anyway. Dragonfish is so good, I will be returning there with my hubby - or whoever else happens to be with me! The next day, we got a treat at my favorite mall treat "red mango". That is the main reason I shop at Bell Square when we head west. A stop at the Renton Ikea and we were headed back home to our families. Great weekend and not a complete financial disaster (not quite enough time at the mall for that).

'Cause I feel like crap and I want to. I felt horrible yesterday with aches and chills but no fever which was awful especially since it was beautiful out and I am sure there won't be many more days like that. Plus the house is torn apart since we had to bring some furniture back home that was in storage so we are trying to redistribute again. I didn't work on it at all on Sunday. I did manage to get through the laundry one load at a time with big rests in between though. Thank goodness football has started so I didn't have grand expectations yesterday anyway.

Today I woke up and knew exactly what was wrong, still no fever but the pain had localized. Definitely a kidney infection! So stayed home from work, got kids to daycare, me to urgent care and then the pharmacy. Oh, before all of that, the Tahoe wouldn't start this morning and I was too sissy tired to jump it or even hook it up to charge so I had to drive Josh's truck (thank goodness it was here) Now I'm wiped and will be in the recliner for the remainder of the day.

Okay, whining completed! Tomorrow is another day (and the antibiotics will have kicked in)...

Colts - Game 1

I figured I'd better get this posted before tomorrow since they have their second game in the morning! The Colts won their first game last season (all five squads won, so they are 5-0). It was so fun to watch and Josh was almost hoarse from yelling when it was over. Can't wait for tomorrow afternoon!

Coach!

Josh is coaching, well assistant coaching, a Grid Kids football team this year. He was a little hesitant at first but knew he needed to get involved so the boys could be on good teams when it was their turn to play.

So much for the hesitation! Three weeks in and it is all he can talk about-he absolutely loves it! He is coaching the beginners (7-8 year olds) which is perfect for him. I am so happy Mack talked him into it. Although it takes a lot of time (M, T, Th, practice and games on Sat), it is great to see him so into something and get a break from work.

Time for Change

Today was sort of Boone's first day of school! We had a small group conference to meet the teacher and settle in for 45 minutes. Boone is doing great but our little guy is taking it hard. It was really hard for him to leave for Angie's without Boone.

Brody was thrilled to see his brother when he got back (before 10 am) but the change was still nagging at him all day. He was so emotional when I picked him up and kept saying things like "It's just Boone's lucky day" or "It's only your special day". He has worked so hard to be like the big boys and now they are all playing soccer and leaving for school. It will take some adjustment for the little man, but he'll make it. He is going to start taking a backpack to Angie's too, just for his preschool projects. Less clutter in the cubby, that should make Angie happy :)

Soccer

I think Boone has found his sport! He is playing soccer for the first time this year and he loves it! It is also the first time he isn't playing a YMCA sport - we are trying Upward Soccer through my sister's church. Mostly the same FIFA rules and a really positive environment for all the kids. It is also great that practices and games are very close to home and my nephew is playing too! That makes one stop shopping easier for us and grandparents.

Boone is really showing skills as a defender. His mission is automatically to run back and protect the goal (no goalies in his age group yet). He loves a break away run down the field too, but he's yet to score a goal that way. We still need some practice with foot control but he is having a great time! He is so excited for practice and games every week-never pouts or whines. Definitely fun for Josh and me to watch! Can't wait until little brother gets to play too!

Wow - where has the summer gone? We took the boys to their first ever Seahawk's game this weekend. Good thing it was pre-season and the tickets were freebies! The boys loved taking the Sound Transit's Light Rail. Free parking and a cheap trip that let us off about a block from Qwest Field - what's not to love?

The stadium seemed empty until about 5 minutes before kick off - then it was packed! I love that field, the noise is great and so are the fans. Our seat offered a great view of a lot of dedicated season ticket holders and their great costumes. The wind kicked up so I bought a blanket and Boone and I snuggled. Brody cheered at all the right times during the game but was also very interested in bouncing on the seats and eating all of the redvines he could swipe!

They made it through half of the 4th quarter before we decided to head out and catch the train back to the car! Put a little dent in our wallets shopping at North Bend, especially in the Volcom Store. Lots of cute stuff for stylin' little guys and their dad!

I am experimenting with grids so I made one of our camping trip to Juniper Dunes in April. Not so much camping as hanging out in the RV and having a few drinks while the boys played on their bikes. Good times anyway!

This is one of my favorite summer drinks! It makes my tummy all tingly inside and is perfect for boating. I haven't tried the chocolate or the cherry but them citrus mints are actually much better than I thought they'd be.

Of course, they are a "special" treat and I only buy them when they are ten for $10, not very often. And I just can't get enough of this photo with all these great colors.

Just made the yummiest and fastest linguine alfredo ever thanks to this awesome recipe. Since it was Boone's request, we had linguine instead of the usual fettuccine. We swam in the sun this afternoon that wasn't exactly the kind of dinner I was planning but, what are you gonna do?

Tonight we are going to watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - gotta start easy and not so scary. And if it is a little scary, Daddy will be gone all weekend so there will be plenty of room in my bed for little visitors.

Ahhh, looks like Brody might miss the movie. We just got to Platform 9 3/4 and he is already asleep!

Outside my window...I hear Josh mowing our jungle! Weedeater has been broken and so all lawn mowing was delayed for awhile.

I am thinking...that I love my new Kirkland lip gloss from Costco.

I am thankful...for nights that my family has low expectations for dinner.

From the kitchen...cheddar brats and spicy dogs, maybe some granola as a second course.

I am wearing...well loved green shorts and my purple shirt from work today.

I am creating...visions in my head about quilts to make.

I am going...to bed after watching some True Blood on DVD. Nowhere to far away for a bit!

I am reading...Darkfever, a free download on the kindle, pretty good so far.

I am hoping...that I make my goal weight for the wedding on August 1st, only 4 pounds to go!

I am hearing...Brody work so hard now to say his Ls. Everything is so pronounced like llllego, lllion!

Around the house...things are pretty picked up thanks to Josh's help last night (except for the ace bandages and Tinker Toy crutches laying all over).

One of my favorite things...the top of my desk is neat, tidy, and clutter free for the 1st time in a bit.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Josh will be gone for the big Bachelor Party weekend in White Salmon and Portland. Trying to think of something for the boys and I to do, not sure their dad would be too happy if I took them to the "Pride" parade this weekend!

I love blogging this way when I can't think of anything important. Just another way to way to track memories of the everyday, mundane, wonderful, BIG life.

Terminator or Salvation?

So today Boone discovered what those two words meant and was sharing that info with his dad tonight.

"Terminate means to destroy things and salvation means to save the state or country or city and stuff".

Josh says "I've heard that title a hundred times and never realized it was an oxymoron. That is pretty bad when my five year old has to explain that to me."

Day 3 in Maui

Started the morning at an orientation here at WorldMark to see if we might like to modify our plans for the week. We did change our minds a bit. It was so nice to get grocery shopping done yesterday, the island is smaller that I remember as far as travel time, which was so great!

After checking out the pool at the condo a bit we came back to get ready for a little hike and the rest of the day out. The six of us drove up to Iao Valley State Park. It was a little busy today but so pretty, even with the thick VOG (volcanic smog from Big Island). The trade winds have been minimal so it is warm and nothing is blowing out to sea. Got some fun pictures and a little exercise. Saw some crazy local kids jumping off a tall rock in to water so shallow they could stand in it after they landed.

After that, we headed to the Maui Ocean Center just in time to catch the feeding and education session with the naturalists at the aquarium. It was great for the boys, they had a little private sesion with a naturalist in the famous tunnel. Brody really liked the turtles but both boys, especially Boone, were obsessed with the sting rays. Boone rushed us through every exhibit until we saw the Rays. They have one that was rescued from the bay after her stinger was cut off named "Stubby" that had successfully mated a few time since rescue. So cool that the boy Rays don't judge her for being different. It is a good thing that my boys like animals since they will never be able to go anywhere without visiting an aquarium or zoo with me as their Mama!

We came home and ran to the beach for a little fun before it got dark. Boone takes awhile to warm up to the waves but Brody dives right in, just like his Daddy! Nothing scares that kid (and that scares me)! Even after he gets wiped out, he's right back up! We came home and went for a gecko hunt. We were still waiting for someone to claim Josh's offer of a dollar to the first finder. I though I found one, but after closer inspection which included knocking him on Boone's head and then him jumping on Boone's knees, he turned out to be a standard lizard (and Boone turned out to be a bit traumatized). Nana found one one flight up that actually had suction cup feet so I deemed her the true winner of the first gecko find!

Dinner tonight was quick thanks to Costco. I made some rice for the first time ever without my rice pot. Who knew? I fried up some cabbage with kalua pork from Costco. It was sooo good! Now after a few Margaritas (also thanks to Costco), it is time to catch up on memory recording. I'll add photos after I get them loaded up.

My favorite quote of the day came when I overheard Katie talking about having the housesitter (Kristy) and Heidi Fed Ex over the ashes of dear family friends that she is in charge of spreading. She is so upset that she forgot to bring them and is trying to figure out a way to get them here. What I heard was "Oh, I don't know. Maybe about a half a cup of each?"

Day 2 in Maui

Today, after a huge breakfast at the resort, we spent the morning exploring Lahaina. There was art fair under our first stop at the Banyan tree. Not so fun for our Monkeys but really cool to look at and talk to the artists. Josh, Grampa and the boys took off to check out the harbor (and get soaked) while Nana and I checked out some shops. I picked up some new Croc flops on the way which was a very good idea for all the walking we'll be doing.

We met up with the boys at Bubba Gumps for an afternoon snack and drink. Poor Brody was a little traumatized to eat in his underwear since Josh insisted we dry out his soaked shorts while we ate on the balcony. Katie enjoyed the first Lava Flow of the trip while I was thrilled with my "hush pups".

We were done early enough to head back to Kahului to hit Costco and get the majority of our food shopping done for the week, as well as some souvenier planning. We came back and had Coscto pizza and ceviche for dinner. The best part was our first trip to the real beach. The boys laughed and played (Josh included) and came home ready for rest.

As a side note: I can't believe how much Brody is finally in to coloring. It has taken awhile but the Ben 10 book that Nana brought has had his attention all weekend. Boone, on the other hand, is becoming a gaming nut with his new DSi, also thanks to Ben 10.

Day 1 in Maui

After a long day of Travel that included a drive to Seattle and a six hour flight to Maui, we arrived at our one night stop in Lahaina. We stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort and would absolutely go back to stay there. The only downfall was the insanely slow elevators. We arrived about 7:30 PM local time (10:30pm Pacific Time) and just had time to check in and squeeze in dinner before everything closed at nine. We ate at Basil Tomatoes Italian Grill as it was closest to the hotel and it was great even though we were rushed.

The resort was beautiful with fantastic beds after such a long day. I would love to spend some more time there and really check it out.

Michael Bradley Law was born on 4/27 at 7:12 pm.

He ways just 6# 13oz and it 20 1/2 inhes long and is absolutely

A Little Braggin'

The obsession with Guitar Hero has faded a bit but Jason came this weekend and we've been playing a ton. He and Josh left to get dinner when this happened and I knew they wouldn't believe me so I made sure I had proof!

My first 100%! Still just playing medium but I was excited anyway. The other score is Boone's first attempt at playing on Easy since we were playing Legends of Rock. He is used to the beginner option on World Tour. Fun Stuff!

Sweet Nieces

The most recent pics of the girls in my life, with the exception of Kylee. That's just because I was too chicken to take my camera out in the rain on Easter.

Baby Lauren won't be a baby for much longer as she turns one in May. Such a sweet girl who loves her big cousins. She took two steps to her auntie last weekend!

Though it might night be her best side, this picture is for reference. Those of you who've known me since this sweet baby came into my life over 12 years ago won't believe how tall this girl is. Ashley is only about an inch shorter than I am and her feet are bigger! I hid some eggs at Easter where only she would be able to reach them; if I could reach it, I knew she could. She is the best sister and cousin. I am so excited to watch her grow into a young woman.

Okay, I realize it doesn't look yummy at all, but it was actually very tasty. We had our St. Patty's day Corned Beef and Cabbage on the 18th because I forgot to put it in the crock pot on Tuesday. I felt kind of bad for making this Brody's birthday dinner but he really liked it. He ate his whole plate and some of mine too! Next year we'll try to be a bit more authentic with boiled potatoes, but the mashed were good enough and quick. Wish me luck as I prepare for 35 or so people to invade our house on Sunday!

It's Official

We don't have a baby any more. This kid is THREE today!

He really is a little boy now and sometimes it is so hard to believe that there are no more babies. His feet are huge! When we carry him sleeping to bed, his feet hang down below Josh's waist. He wanted super heroes and a skate board for his birthday, oh and cake, lots of cake. I asked what he wanted for a special birthday dinner and he said CAKE! He wouldn't be convinced that cake was the option for dessert. I woke him up this morning by singing Happy Birthday and he mumbles sleepily "Is it time for my party?"

Check out the cute one I made for our little friend Phoebe's second birthday. After royal battles remembering how to adjust the tension on my oft abandoned sewing machine, this is what I came up with. I would have liked a different handle, but had to work with what I had on hand.

Now that I've cleaned up my scrap/craft space a bit, I am in the mood. I wish I had little girls to make stuff for. We'll have to see what I come up with for my sweet little niece Lauren in May!

I love this yellow one for summer, too cute. I am pretty sure I'd be sticking with the boutique model even though $125 is still pretty tough to swallow for a girl who's never spent more that $35 on a purse. But I am all about the organizational aspect of it.

This old dog is so lazy! He laid there, piled with laundry for at least five minutes.

He only picked his head up when I knelt down to take his picture. Tug is getting so old and its a lot harder for him to get around with his aching hips but he still brings us a lot of joy (and clumps of yellow fur every where).

My pretty new plate, my yummy lemon cake (a la Sequim Smith's), my new Nikkor lens (a la Christmas present from my in-laws). What I learned was that yellow cake is very appetizing on "peacock" fiestaware and that I need a lot of practice with a manual focus lens.

My dominant eye (also the one left open when I wink, since I can only do that on one side) is the one that I can't quite get a good prescription for. Therefore, even with contacts, I don't see that well out of it. Doesn't make for a good ability to focus. Kind of like in high school photography...old manual everything cameras and a teenage girl who refused to wear her glasses made for bad pictures. I can't believe I passed!

New Technology Blues

I'm snacking on tortilla chips and hummus (actually it's dinner) and am watching Josh to his obsessive wire routing, spoiling and organizing as he gets ready to hook up a new TV. As geeky as we are, I should be really excited but I'm not. Not in the budget, not in the plans and certainly not helping me save for Maui.
I guess I should be grateful that we could actually replace our old one when it died but jeez. It's just one more thing.

I realize this is kind of a pointless post but Josh has been accusing me of neglecting my blog. And he blames facebook. Of course, facebook is pretty much at the top of his blame list for everything. He probably would have blamed facebook if McCain had won the election.

What happened to super secret government? What happened to we don't need to know anything because they don't legally have to tell us? President Obama happened, that's what! They even have a blog if you can believe it!

Please excuse the sarcasm but I am just so impressed and hopeful with what is to come, though I realize how much work there really is to be done. Another great blog to check out is this one.
