Being a nutrient seeker (or at least being aware) makes food combinations look a little funny!

Breakfast was rushed this morning so I had my typical Via, Vital Proteins Collagen and Grassfed cream iced coffee. Instead of my usual smoothie, I had to make due with an Exo Bar.

Lunch today had to make up for my lack of greens at breakfast so I had 2 cups of spinach, a container of Good Foods chunky guacamole and sardines. Thank goodness for Costco! I topped it with some Himalayan pink salt and a bit of rice wine vinegar. I was prepared to choke it down but it was actually pretty good! I love anything that resembles tuna salad I guess.

I'm trying not to drink much while I eat to make sure my stomach acid isn't diluted but I'm really looking forward to heading to Starbucks in a bit for an iced Passion Tea! I'm also really enjoying the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Honey Mint (only 3 ingredients) that I'm eating right now to get rid of my fishy breath. Tonight, I'm making The Domestic Man's Shepherd's Pie for dinner, mmmm! So good!
Its June? Huh? So much for blogging resolutions. I feel like I've made many changes over the last year and I've done very little to track them or the effects they've had on my life. The idea of doing that all now seems too overwhelming so I've decided to take some snapshots of different areas of my life as they are now and decide what's working and what could still use some tweaking.

Let's start with Mornings! I think this is where I've had the most success making changes but that is possibly because this is where there I needed them most. Since I'm focusing on Nourishment this year, its a very good place to start.

Currently Working:

Weekday wakeup - spending ten minutes or so laying in bed with the sunlight streaming in. I feel like this is helping me adjust to the day.

Pre-Shower - Dry brushing all over and oil pulling with coconut oil for the first 10 minutes of my shower. I'm adding these things to my morning to promote detox and liver support. My teeth seem whiter and my gums are much less sensitive to flossing. We'll see what the dentist has to say soon.

Shower - Using Dr. Bronner's for body soap, just my Clarisonic and some baking soda (when I feel like my face needs it), and I'm currently using Acure Organics Peppermint Shampoo and Conditioner.

Oral Health - Using a copper tongue scraper either before or after brushing (again to support Liver detox).

Morning make up routine is very simple: Yes to Grapefruit tinted correcting serum, some blush, eyeliner, shadow and Burt's Bees Pomegranate limp balm.

Morning supplements -Thorne's Berberine (hormone and GI support), Adapt from Interplexus (adrenal Support), Green Pastures Fermented Cod Liver Oil and Biogenesis Methyl Factors. Just this morning I added in some potent probiotics (one month supply) and an ayurvedic jam called Amla which apparently does everything but I'm using these both to support my gut after some recent test results.

Breakfast is usually an organic protein powder blend with 2 Cups of spinach and coconut milk or some pastured eggs from my backyard with breakfast meat and veggies and Bubbies lacto fermented sauerkraut. Can't forget my coffee (sometimes Tea or Yerba Mate) with Vital Proteins Collagen and Grass Fed Cream with a little maple syrup.

I try really hard to be positive and kind in the mornings with the boys. I want us to start our days with love and good feelings toward each other and the world.

Eating from a primal template has made the most tremendous difference in my health and energy levels, skin and nails and my lab results and hormone balance too... but I guess that's a post for another day!

Needs Improvement:

Notice there is no actual meditation happening here, nor is there early morning yoga or other exercise.

I should really spend some more time oil pulling but time is valuable and this works for now.

Shampoo and hair care is something I've really struggled with. My hair really seems to be changing and is thicker but still as oily as ever. I do need to shampoo everyday even through I've tried to skip days, go "no poo" primarily by using baking soda and apple cider vinegar or alternating between a few other methods. My styling products are still not very good for me (Big Sexy Hair, Its a 10 etc.) but I have to hang on to something since my hair is so different right now. This is another area for exploration.

Brushing - still using commercial toothpaste (Kirkland brand) but should make a transition soon.

My make up is pretty good, all checks out okay through the skin deep database. I am trying to use up a lot of old products from my Ipsy Glam Bag days. I did recently purchase a few new products from Primal Life Organics but haven't been able to make them work to my preference yet. I really want to try some products from Fat Face Skin Care too.

I want to keep to as much of a "foods first" rule as I can to avoid additional supplementation but considering I'm not on ANY medication, that list doesn't seem too bad.

I would like to wean myself off of smoothies but the convenience and time factor can't be beat. Plus, I love my Blend Tech blender and need a reason to use it every day!

Sometimes this is a struggle, not all of us are morning people in the Prock Family! I do need to be very intentional to make this successful and sometimes I just don't make the effort. Life is so much better than just a 2 years ago though and for that I am very grateful!

I've never been a big resolution maker. I like to say its because I'm realistic but maybe its because I'm lazy. And January never really seems to be a great starting point for me, there is always just so much going on. Perhaps its the school geek in me, but September always makes so much more sense as a starting point.

I've made quite a few fundamental changes in the last six months I'm going to use the traditional January kickoff to articulate them and my intentions regarding them versus start something new. I've been reading that focusing on habit creation is much more effectives and produces better outcomes than setting a large goal.

I've also chosen One Little Word or Word of the Year before but haven't attached that word in a concrete and global way to my life. I think a valuable word or mantra as a focus will be so much more meaningful if it can be applicable in various areas. I'm going to spend some concrete time focusing on my word and how it can help me to define goals or habits in many areas of my life.

Areas that I'd like to address should include things such as Health, Career, Family, Friendship, Love, Happiness, Spirituality, Creativity, Travel, Money, Education etc. The word that is speaking to me the most right now is NOURISH. Hopefully I can use that word to define and put some new good habits into place.

Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-34892470743412279282015-01-05T13:13:00.000-08:002015-01-05T13:13:56.039-08:00Today - January's Modified Present Participle ListWow, its been 6 months since I've done an update - perhaps a modified list is in order.

Outside My Window: This winter cannot decide what it wants to do. Snow on Sunday and 55 degrees and windy today. It is either 10 degrees or 45 here this year!

Eating: Starting out the year pretty well. Five months of primal eating and feeling great. So many more veggies and rarely any grains or legumes. Still #teamwhiterice in this family or I might get hung but everyone is adjusting pretty well to the meals I make as long as there is popcorn and wheat free cereal or oats in the pantry. Down 20 lbs. since August and my skin is clear and hair is thick. Sleep is so much better too!

Reading: So happy with my reading success last year. The digital selection from our library is really great and having book club every 2 months gives me a reason that I must read. This puts me into a habit so that I stay caught up which usually gets me an extra 2 books in before book club rolls around again. Plus, continuing to read with the boys regularly ensures that we have down time together. Currently reading: My Life in France by Julia Child, The Blood of Olympus (#5), and Homespun Mom Comes Unraveled. Just finished Daring Greatly (a must read), The Look of Love by Sarah Jio (always love her books), and The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown which was a beautifully written book. As my mother in law says - "WWII and the Pacific NW, how can you go wrong?"

Working: Having such a hard time getting back into the groove of work after the holidays. Glad I am doing Leadership Tri-Cities this year to help learn about our great community and do great things in it. I do feel like I need to work hard on my personal mission and figure out what I want to do with my life. Darn that economic security! I'd prefer to go back to school or drop out of the workforce completely and homestead but alas, neither is really an option without major risk taking. And those risks affect so many more than just me so I'll just continue to find the passion in the work that I do. So grateful that I CAN do that!

Listening: Haven't really fallen for any new music lately. I've been listening to lots of podcasts and even an audiobook. Josh had a download that needed to be used so I bought Eat the Yolks by Liz Wolfe. Highly recommend (audiobook or real book) if you are interested in debunking the garbage science that we've been fed regarding our food (and its actually a light read).

Planning: Need a getaway with my hubby! Would love sunny, sandy trip somewhere to celebrate our 15th year of marriage.

Feeling: Like I'm getting to know myself this year. Enneagram, Meyers Brigg, monthly work for Leadership Tri-Cities, bi-annual counseling appointments, reading and exploration...its all contributing. Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-59744234311978734412014-07-15T12:39:00.002-07:002014-07-15T12:39:53.524-07:00Today's Present Participle List
Outside My Window: It is HOT! It has been over 100 degrees for days now and will continue to be until the weekend!

Reading: The Bomb - with Josh and the kids. The first book we've all read together in a really long time. Brody is a little bored but he's tolerating it. I'm really trying to get into this book since it was MY suggestion for book club.

Making: List after list because that is what I do.

Working: Trying to get everything done so that I can be off for just over a week. So looking forward to time away!

Listening: To a few new podcasts: The Art of Simple and The Read Aloud Revival. We (I) read aloud a lot with our boys and plan to continue to, it is a ritual that I can't imagine letting go of.

Hoping: That I can get my butt in gear and start running again so that I can do a September 5k with Amy. I really need to run but can't make myself get up in the morning...struggling with a little indulgence issue I think.

Planning: Our back to back trips that start this week. A very long weekend in Pacific City, Oregon with one group of friends followed up by another long weekend in Hood River with a different group. Josh and I are finishing that my cashing in my Christmas White Water Rafting gift certificates. So excited!

Wanting: To get caught up or at least restarted on my photo album/Project Life; or really even just blogging again. I feel the need to capture our memories and retain a little bit of who I am.

Loving: My husband - that's not news I guess. I'm just very happy with where we are and the work we put in to get here. He's the best partner for me and father for our boys.

Wanting: Well not really wanting because its ridiculously priced but I'm admiring the new Fitbit Bracelet from Tory Burch. It's already gone from the Tory Burch site so I can't even link there.Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-88530229244220584742014-03-19T20:49:00.002-07:002014-03-19T20:49:16.694-07:00This is What Our Day Looked Like...

Just after midnight, Boone came down to tell us that Brody was screaming at him. After a tough night getting them to sleep, I had run out of patience and just yelled at Boone to go sleep in another room. About 5 minutes later, Brody came down to tell us he had thrown up in his bed. Lovely…so after cleaning him up and cleaning his bedding up (luckily Josh woke up to help), we got him back to bed. I wasn’t so lucky - it took me another hour and a half to fall back to sleep so I read “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls” by David Sedaris to pass the time.

We had to wake up early so that I could drop the boys off early in order to pick up mom and get her to her dentist appointment. She had to take a valium to help with the sedation efforts so she couldn’t drive. I amazingly made it to work, just in time. We had Brody go to school today, even though he was sick last night. We were very certain it was from the huge birthday dinner and two desserts he had partnered with lots of trampoline jumping and new Wii game activity. It was…he felt great all day! At work I got so busy that I forgot to pick up the boys from school before noon due to early release and then forgot that I had a conference call from 3-5 so I had to work late. I was so glad for the day to be done and just be relaxing on the couch.

Right now, I'm really trying to get back into memory keeping of some sort. I'm still trying to decide if it will be through scrapbooking, blogging, or just journaling. I really like the Day One app. This lets me add photos to journaling, keeps track of the location of the entry or photo, and even the weather at that time and location. You can add tags and set reminders to encourage you to write.

I suppose this post should be called "What We Love" as I'm not really the one into Minecraft in our family but both boys love it! This is definitely the first time that Josh and I have really had to pay attention to screen time limits for the kids. Between the i Devices and X-Box, they would spend a lot of time building their universes. It really is fun to see how clever and creative they are and they work together quite a bit. It is a lot like virtual Lego. I do find myself needing to remind them to play with the real thing sometimes so they actually get some fine motor skills time.

Funny that I've blogged so little lately that almost my last post was about Season 1 of Game of Thrones. Season 2 just arrived on our porch for a late Valentine's present to Josh and I yesterday. I really enjoyed the books that the series is based on (though I haven't managed to finish the most recent one yet) and they are doing a pretty good job staying staying true. The casting is phenomenal too. But what I love most is that Josh and I get to snuggle up on the couch for some grown up alone time to watch it.

Ahh...Mumford and Sons. They've been on my fave list for awhile but it seems like they are everywhere now. Love these guys and really all of this style of music. So glad there is so much of it out there right now...The Lumineers, Edward Sharpe, and the boys love Of Monsters and Men.
How can you not love REI, besides Costco, its one of the few stores Josh and I both love to shop. We've been there a lot this past year and the most recent sale was good for me. Josh got me a Kuhl Shirt and REI running jacket for Valentine's Day and I just got a pair of Dansko clogs of their clearance shoe rack for half off - the only pair was in my size!!
When we were young (read pre-kids) we went to the movies at least twice a month. We had to be one of the first thousand subscribers to Netflix when we bought our first DVD player in 1999. It was a big transition when we had babies - way more Netflix and much less theater time. I don't think I quite went a year not going to the movies but I remember the "first" movie after each baby, both the anxiety of being away from the baby and the joy of being back in the theater. In fact, I remember so vividly the first movie Josh and I watched after we got back together following our first (and only) big breakup. The movie was far from fantastic, Mission Impossible, but I was so happy to be sitting next to him again in "our place".

This year we finally cancelled our Netflix subscription with all the weird cost increases and company changes. We still don't hit the theater quite as often as the early days since it is crazy expensive to take a family of four, but we try to go fairly often. It is amazing what technology has brought us - with broad band internet and the variety of online, on demand movie services. We now use Vudu and Amazon pretty regularly as well as Redbox for rentals on the fly. Since we had slowed down our Netflix consumption, never really feeling like watching the movies we happened to have at the house, it feels like we are watching so much more lately. Now "our place" is more likely to be the big comfy gray couch.

Last Friday was an early release day, Josh was home from Wenatchee and I was off early (and the wind was blowing madly) the way to spend our afternoon was obvious - off the movies we would go! Again - no one could agree on anything. There were only 3 family friendly movies out - Boone had already seen Journey 2, we had plans to watch The Lorax (can't wait) on the 17th and I was the only one interested in watching The Secret World of Arrietty. Redbox iPhone app to the rescue - we reserved both Hugo and Puss in Boots and headed home.

Last fall, I really wanted to take the boys to see Hugo but no one was interested but me. It was also seemed to have a really short run in the Tri-Cities, go figure. The movie was pure MAGIC absolutely beautiful. The story was fantastic - I cannot wait to read Brian Selznick's next book. I am so happy we finally watched it - (though I am sure 3-D would have been even cooler!) I was teary at the end and Boone, who only watched it to humor me, lay on the couch next to me, mesmerized.

We watched Puss in Boots and finished the weekend with Abduction (mehhh - 2 stars) and X-Men: First Class (how had it taken us so long to watch this one?)

The Academy Awards always produce a flurry of movie watching for me (nominated movies or otherwise). I get a new excitement for all those films that I might have missed and burning desire to soak them all up. Even though there are absolutely times that I am annoyed by the time I lost sitting through a flop - the good far outweighs the bad.Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-28966783732787611582012-01-18T13:55:00.000-08:002012-01-18T13:55:56.093-08:00TodayOutside My Window -There is snow everywhere.
Adams ClimbYes - it really is a post from Josh...
About two months ago, while having a few beers my buddy Tim, he told me he was planning a trip to climb Mt. Adams, and asked if I was interested. With my courage shored with by a few cold Dos Equis I said I'd love to join the group. The plan was to drive to Trout Lake on the first day and hike from the parking area to "base camp" around 9000ft. There we would set up a camp eat sleep and prep for day two. The second day would include a pre daylight excursion and climb for a mid morning summit then head back to base camp pack up and head to the truck for a night of camping BBQ'ing and drinking.i
We had done a pretty good job of getting our stuff lined up but we still needed a last minute trip to REI and the grocery store. We met at my place Sunday morning at 6am and headed to Trout Lake Ranger station to register for the trip. It cost $15 for a weekend pass. We were told the snow level was very low and we would have to park 2.5 miles below the trail head at 4400 ft, which was great because 15 miles didn't seem like quite far enough to walk! Since it was Sunday morning there were quite a few cars parked on the road to the trailhead but we found a spot and headed up the mountain. Thanks to the low snow level the hike had a nice little warm up of 2.3 miles to the trailhead. The snow was pretty consistent at the trail head and made the walk much more difficult.

Setting up camp for the night was super cool. We were at about 8900 feet, well above the tree line and the place looked like the moon. No life anywhere just big volcanic boulders snow and a few small sheltered areas that had been dug in by previous hikers. The common place to stay is called Lunch Counter by the professionals we were about 600-700 feet below that but as I said before, we were gassed, and seeing 2 small nooks for the tents among the rocks was a life saver! We pitched our tents and set about unpacking and cooking dinner... That is melting to snow to make enough warm water to cook our MRE’s. The selection of MRE’s is pretty good and you can have just about anything, some good some bad. In my limited experience, keep it simple. If it is normally dehydrated it’ll taste better ie. dehydrated noodles and rice - good... dehydrated Chicken breast with Mashed potatoes - bad.

We were settled in about 9pm and pretty much ready for bed. I put on a fresh pair of socks which was better than ___ (I’ll let you fill in the blank), then threw in a packet of Via coffee kicked my feet up and watched the sun set over Hood, St Helens, and the entire lower Columbia Basin. Very Cool! About 10:30 I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore (even though it was still daylight) so we turned in for the night. We were a little worried because it was about 28 degrees with a 20mph wind, but in the small tent and our bags we slept like babies and there were no reports of anyone getting cold.

Hot breakfast (dehydrated granola in milk for me) another cup of coffee and we were off! We started walking about 6am. The Summit is 12,300 ft so we had approx 3400 vertical to climb today. The ascent to the false summit is massive and intimidating, but I found it to be easier if you just don’t look up... Everyone I had talked with warned me to be ready for the surprise of how much farther we had after reaching the false summit, and they weren’t kidding! I was the first of our group to reach the false summit so i had time to watch a ventricular cloud formation blow over the summit and completely white out the view. By the time the rest of the guys got there it was pretty menacing looking. We decided to trudge on and see what the mountain would bring!

The hike after the false summit went surprisingly quick. Before we knew it we were standing on the top of the world... well higher than any of us had been except for in a plane. It was about quarter to ten and we had made it! I remember trying to determine if the altitude was affecting me, I didn’t feel like i was starving for oxygen but in retrospect i do recall feeling a little “drunk” for lack of a better term. i remember fine motor skills like zipping up a jacket or putting on gloves seemed to take more concentration than normal. Other than that the 45 minutes we spent on the summit was incredible! The view is un-describable, Mt St Helens, Rainier, Hood, Sisters, the ridge to the east of Rainier which I think is called the Razorback all surround you and all above the clouds.

The biggest bummer of the trip was that the clouds that were covering the summit that day prevented the snow from getting slushy, this made Glissading suicide... If you aren’t familiar, Glissading is sitting on your butt and sliding blissfully at the speed of your choice to the bottom of the mountain. We were forced to walk down a couple thousand feet before we could start Glissading.

The walk back to the truck was so much easier! Slipping sliding and glissading downhill is so much better than 8” steps uphill! All in all The trip was so cool... I’d say if you don’t want to start climbing don’t do it once! I will be doing it again. I would like to climb Adams a few more times then maybe move on to anther mountain.

Summers are so busy and we love seeing all of our friends but there is still so much to do at the house. Saturday after my regular breakfast of champions (a vanilla latte and Luna bar) I mowed the lawn and tried to pull up crab grass. I got a sunburn and very sore leg and back muscles for those efforts. Josh entrusted me to do some experiments with lawn chemicals (not something I am usually a proponent of but we really need some assistance to get this yard up to our standards). He spent the day getting sheetrock up in the shop and moving things all around. We also got 8-10 loads of laundry done too.
This morning we enjoyed yummy blueberry bagels from Thursday's trip to the farmer's market and introduced the boys to Styx! They are playing the "trust game" in the photo but I'm not sure they know that. Next up is local raised and butchered ribs smoked on Josh's Green Mountain Grill, if I can figure out how to use it!
Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-39960657295132611882011-06-26T10:39:00.000-07:002011-06-26T10:39:04.260-07:00Memorial Cruise

Friday night was the first time the bugs have been out since Dave Sr. passed away last September. Josh and Don got them all washed up and shiny and we had a little family cruise over to Richland for Cool Desert Nights. This isn't the best photo (iPhone); we stopped for dinner at Azteca first. Nana and Grampa took the black bug with one kid; Josh and I took the Red Rag Top with the other kid. Brody was so excited to wear the black beetle button. Spending some time in the cars was a great reminder of Grandpa Dave and how much of himself went into his cars - we even found an unopened pack of Marlboros and some Binaca!
Brody had his 5 year well child exam yesterday. It was not a fun time when he needed his two shots, that kids is strong and loud. Funny how much less embarrassed I am with him than I would have been with Boone. A second child makes you humbler for sure.

2. My race results were better than I thought but I am only on one of the finishers lists on 3rrr.org. Somehow I got missed on the main spreadsheet. Good Thing I found this though:

3. We are finally getting the stamped concrete sealed today and the exterior paint prep will start too!

4. Boone is on his second round of antibiotics for an elusive sinus infection - seems to take after his Gram. Josh went to bed early tonight fighting early cold-like symptoms.

5. The boys are both waking up to alarm clocks and getting themselves dressed. This has been a wonderful month of mornings!

6. The age of my poor Tahoe is finally starting to show. It was a rough winter outdoors but it will be paid off at the end of the month. This will be the first time I've kept a car (payment free) and not run out to replace it. I don't think we have ever even paid off one of my cars before. We did keep the Bronco payment free for quite a while but added a second child in childcare to offset that savings.

7. My parents are in Kauai right now with my Aunt and Uncle. They ate rice and Portuguese sausage and eggs for breakfast and I was very jealous.

8. I am taking two trips within two months coming up really soon - Minnesota in early April and Las Vegas in early June. Two very different packing efforts.

9. I am listening to my old Tug Dog snore next to me and wondering how much longer I'll get to hear those noises.

10. We get our couch delivered Tuesday afternoon between 1 and 3pm-Oh Happy Day!!!
I keep putting it off because we are far from done and completely settled. Things are a mess, furniture is absent, we just aren't done yet. But today I read this post and the follow up comments and realized - its okay! It is what it is as my sweet husband always says. This is us ~ this is now!
I'll do a room at a time when they are more finished but for now, here is a mini tour...

This is the view from the breakfast bar in the kitchen - yes there is supposed to be glass in the cabinet door, but its not there yet!

This is the view from next to the fridge - the blue/green room in the distance is the master bedroom.

Here is our living room sans couch and rug. The couch was supposed to be here on Valentine's Day but looks like at least another two weeks. Such is our luck when ordering new furniture. Eventually there will be rock on the fireplace and a mantle too, in white. We love the built-ins. I just need some time to figure out the layout.

This is the view from the living area to the front of the house. Eventually we will have stuff on the walls, possibly a bar instead of the piano...priorities!

Planned to be quite neutral so I can add stuff seasonally.

No great pictures of the master bedroom as this little guy is sleeping off his fever (hopefully). Not quite sure what is wrong with him yet, maybe a sinus infection? You can also see one very messy nightstand. Lots of things still waiting for a home.

No tour of the master bath today either (one of my favorite rooms) because as you can see by that big box there along the wall, there are two guys in there putting up my shower door...finally! There are two open doors on either side of this little hall leading to the bathroom. Each side goes into a closet - so far I've even let Josh keep his all to himself. I'm a nice wife like that!

This is the view from the living room looking at the dining/reading room and further in to the laundry/mud room. Lots of hyphenated multi-use rooms in this house, no? Very unfinished at this point. I didn't want to bring the old table in when I want something different for this space. We also need a hutch and two comfy little chairs for the reading nook, as well as a rug for under the table. All these solid surface floors have me begging Josh for a Roomba.

The view out the back door - the covered porch isn't quite finished. Hopefully, next week the concrete (stamped/stained) will be done out here and cut down on some of the insane amounts of sand tracked in on my floors! The wind is intense up here too so with no ground cover at this time, the sand is everywhere. Better than dust I suppose...

The exterior will be painted as soon as the weather warms up a bit. The driveway should be graveled this weekend and hopefully, Charter can get the cable installed so we have internet speeds faster than my iPhone currently gets. Clearwire is sooooo slow! The lawn will be hydro-seeded when the irrigation is turned back on this spring. It will not be soon enough but there is a ton of lawn to do! I hope to get trees planted along the back to block some of riding arena that you see there and landscaping will be a bit farther down the road yet.

We are so happy to be HOME and I am so amazed at what Josh has accomplished here. We've all worked hard and sacrificed a bit but it is no comparison to what he has endured to get us this far. Two years ago when I first started this project, I chose the word focus and that was year I made a big dent in what has become a sixty pound weight loss.
Last year's word was adventure and goodness knows its been that with our living situation, building the house, and trying my hand at enjoying physical activity...my adventure into running.
This year I really wanted my word to reflect my desire to keep on with the newer, healthier lifestyle as well as the peace I hope we all find as we settle into our new home in a few weeks (fingers crossed), organize our space, and spend some down time just being together as a family. My "one little word" for 2011 is~

My cautious oldest told me as I was leaving the 5th wheel with two baskets of laundry - "Mama be so careful, remember Daddy said the steps were soooo icy!"

I am doing ALL the laundry in the world

Both my boys are really enjoying an episode of Sesame Street - even without baby Michael around

I am going to pick out white paint for our cabinets and finally find the perfect blue for a few other spaces (I am stuck between Wythe and Thunderbird both of which are Benjamin Moore - which is further complicated by the fact that our painter is using Parker Paints).

I have officially decided 4 days (and no photos) into December that there will be no Daily December photo series this year!

I really want to run but am still scared of the ice. Its been three weeks and I am cranky! I am going to have to dig out the treadmill at the shop and find an outlet.

Its official! Home sweet home is now our 5th Wheel! No good blogging photos for awhile-this one is from my iPhone/stolen from Facebook. My iMac (4th love of my life) is now packed away since it doesn't fit so well in here, so I am using our dinosaur iBook that is as old as Boone. I am VERY hopeful that I'll be the owner of a Mac Book Pro sometime in October.

We are all settling in fairly well and very happy we upgraded our living quarters earlier this year. This 5th Wheel is much easier for all 4 of us to live in than our old one would have been. Of course, we are also very grateful to my inlaws for letting us take up their driveway and take over their kitchen every night. It is really good to be able to cook for us inside. Of course with football practice (Josh), soccer practice (boys), and me being sicky, there hasn't been a whole lot of cooking so far.

The boys are a bit emotional but they are also feeling under the weather so it is hard to tell exactly why. Boone isn't nearly as enamored with school this year, we are still trying to problem solve that one. Poor kid - not only did we have the move but he started full day school this year in a temporary location since his school is being remodeled. He doesn't have any of his closest buddies in his class (which has positive and negative consequences) and his teacher is new to Southgate too (I do think she is great so far though). The night before school started, his 2nd front tooth came out. My kid is SO self conscious about his appearance (thank goodness he isn't a girl or we'd be dealing with eating disorders etc. for sure) so he is definitely smiling less.

My little Brody is also pretty emotional lately. The other day, when I explained that there were new people living in our house he started wailing "I miss my HOOOOME!" So sad! I am trying to be understanding and patient and reflect on how this must feel in the world of a 4/6 year old, but sometimes I get frustrated. The benefit in the long run is going to be so worth it and they will have so much! But 8 months away is a lifetime for little folks.

So on we go into our year of adventure! I'll start to post some photos and ideas that I have for the house so you all can help me finalize decisions as we go!
Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-23006996744960659822010-09-03T15:27:00.000-07:002010-09-03T15:34:00.774-07:0033 for 33 Update - 4 months in...

Run a 5K (Did a 2 mile race in July)

<strike>Finish our shop</strike> (Done enough to count, still waiting for power)

Move into our new house (I think I'll be cutting this one a little close)

Get a massage

Build a piece of furniture

Keep a one sentence journal for a month

Finish my "Encyclopedia of Me"

Make more desserts!

So that's where I am at so far! I still have a lot to do, some of which will be pretty difficult without a house to live in. The sun is fading fast too, so I am afraid all of my water adventures won't come to fruition either; considering we didn't even un-winterize (is that a word?) our boat this year.

There are still a lot of adventures to be had...

Carlahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09936137757910055377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028484583690176363.post-2438987867888880372010-07-23T14:52:00.000-07:002010-07-23T14:52:54.611-07:00Moving Right Along
The Shop floor was poured today with lots of late night work this week from Josh and lots of great help today!
